So.... what I'm thinking, find out what record lables are behind this and just boycott the buying of their cds.

Cause this is such shit.

Petty, petty SCARE tactics.

Bad enough we're usign it's in the US's forgin policy, now, it's becomign DOMESTIC policy as well. Why is the US goverment giving these twits the time of day? Money. Pure and simple.

This country is really starting to disgust me.....

Don't these idoits realize that mp3 swapping is a powerful marketing tool? The ultamate try before you buy program. It's like getting a tape from a friend and going 'Oo. Hey, I like that!' So what do you do? BUY THE CD.

So what has the cd industry been doing to combat this? RAISING THE PRICE OF CDS. Well fuck, that makes ME wanna go buy more cd's, really. The amount of profit that CD lables make off their product is atsounding. I mean, heck, think about it. How much can WE get blank cds for? 10cents each? fiffty cents maybe? Now, the CD lables are buying these buggers in BULK... SO it costs them shit loads less.

So say, a dime per blank.

Cases are cheep, so say another dime.

Printing can be a bit costly, so say, twenty cents per printing of the outside sleeve aaaaaaaaaand maybe a buck for the booklet. We're talking bulk pricing here....

Buring the cd? You pay however much for the big ole fancy equipement and the more you press, the cheeper is it. So say... benifit of the doubt, another 50cents for burning.

So... what, it costs like... 2 bucks or so to produce the CD?

Heh: Get alot of this:

"At the same time, when asked directly whether CDs cost too much, some consumers will say yes! Why the contradiction? Because some consumers don't understand why the sales tag on a CD is so much higher than the cost of producing the actual physical disc, a cost, which in fact, has decreased over the years. " http://www.riaa.com/news/marketingdata/cost.asp

Artists get anywhere from 1% to 5% of what their cds bring in. Somtimes even less.

So where's the rest of the money go?

Ever stop to wonder, just how BIG the recording indrustry is?

The middle man here, is huge.

So... if marketing is so expencive, how come minor cds that get very little marketing, aren't cheeper?

"Between 1983 and 1996, the average price of a CD fell by more than 40%."

And since then, it's gone up increadably....

Note, how on their site, they don't tell you muchof ANYTHING beyond history and sweeping generalazations?

If they're losing so much money on minor artists... why are they signing them? Why aren't theyn pauseing to go 'Hey, we're spending aloooooooooot of money here... why don't we do some trimming here and there to make the product cheeper so more people will buy it?'

Bah. I'm losing steem here.

Marysia: this is like.. terrorism
Marysia: it's trying to motivate people by scaring them

We seem to be doing that alot lately.....
