Impeachment is not a cure-all

It seems every other week there's a fresh wave of outraged people waving around the "Impeach Bush!" banners. It's a nice idea, in consept. I have a bumpersticker with it. It shows just how little suport Bush really has.

But even Vermont's decided it's just not worth it to presue. There was a big outrage over that, but if you pause to think, it makes alot of sence.

Bush has what, a year and a half left? By the time an impeachment process would oust him, he'd be half out the door anyway.

And then there's that who 'Who fills his seat' problem. Do you REALLY want go ole buckshot Chaney running the show?

Impeachment is not a reset button. You might get a chance to oust Bush (and we've never ousted anyone via impeachement anyway) but all the yes men and cronies and trainwrecks he's built up around him will still be there.

Are you going to impeach the entire white house....?

Edit: If you want to actualy DO something, write your congress critter and express your consern about the fact that Bush is using his exeutive orders to write law, a power that they, not him, posess.

but it shuts the door

Although I agree whole heartedly with your statements, what impeachment does is shut the door on the incoming president. They will not be armed with the tools left behind by the Bush administration. Tools, which in the hands of a president 15 or 20 yeas from now could do much worse. Tools, such as presidential pardons (or commutations) for those who could implicate a president, something that Madison, Jay, and Hamilton had foreseen and madew sure was expressly written into the Constitution by writing the "Federalist Papers". Tools such as using executive orders to surpass the Legislative Branch as you pointed out. Leaving behind this kind of legacy for the next scumbag who's family can buy out and outright lie for the votes needss to be put in check by Impeachment from office and then having it's full course run with legal indictments.

Impeachment will not stop those tools from being available. At best, impeachment will single out a single thing Bush has done and make it void.
