SCI-2710-C01 EX: Conservation Consumerism
It is not possible for humans (or any species) to exist without impacting the environment. Every item or service we purchase has some effect on our environment at both local and global levels. What are these effects? Are they sustainable or are our effects detrimental in either the short or long-term? Students examine the effects of their own spending habits on the environment and explore ways in which they as individuals as well as a society can reduce those effects. Lecture and lab. 4 credits. Lab fee: $40.00.
SCI-3710-C01 EX: Resource Conservation Strategies
Students in this 3-credit upper division course will explore workable strategies for building a sustainable global future stressing innovative procedures applicable to local problems of waste and environmental degradation. Research topics will include waste reduction and recycling, alternative energy applications, and designing sustainable lifestyles. This course utilizes a seminar-project format and requires innovative teamwork. Students are encouraged to apply their unique skill and interests in designing projects and presenting their reports. Local field trips will visit energy and waste facilities. 3 credits.
