"Noone should question"

There is something that makes me twich majorly when someone in a position of authority says that noone should question them. Especialy when this same person has said they don't like censorship, but will use it anyway.

....

I run/ran many forums. I never got angry at someone for quetsioning me. I could explaine my actions, and when I couldn't, I could admit that I probally shouldn't have taken them. This is a quality I beleive all leaders should have. Covering up and saying 'You shouldn't question' is BULLSHIT. It's the same bullshit that's overrunning the American goverment and culture saying that it's unamerican to think or critizise or speak out agaist the goverment when this entire COUNTRY was founded on the pricipal that you SHOULD beable to speak out.

Yes. yes, groups on LJ are not protected under the constitution, HOWEVER! It's still bullshit. To delete posts that were not breakign rules in the name of 'Killing the drama' (when the post was not at all PART or CONNECTED to the drama, just inspired by) and then say it doens't matter when people WTF at you is poor leadership. To not enforce the rule of 'If you talk about cheating, you will be banned' is poor leadership. To undo the enforcing of the rules BY YOUR CO MOD is poor leadership. To explaine away the moding of someone as 'She's family' is poor leadership. To expect people to not question your every action when you're goign agaist what is expected, is just STUPID.

... and now some wanker is saying "It's not cencorship if you never should have opened your mouth in the first place... "

...

Can you tell today is going to be an 'I hate idoits' day?

*shrug* I don't mind. You know that you are free to start a new community, but I prefer to submit to benevolent authority even if I disagree with some decisions, because the alternative is to fracture the community and cause endless confusion about the best place to ask for help. I think the community is a great thing and I don't mind letting someone else be a noob filter.

[identity profile] franthenut.livejournal.com 2005-04-22 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Asking the mod to think about her actions should not fracture the comunity. She's already fractured it and doesn't think she's done any thing wrong.

My bigest bitch was the fact that she deleted a thread ON THE RULES of Runscape in the name of stopping drama and the hyprocrasy that followed. It was a poor desision and she keeps defending it and saying that censorship solves all problems. Maybe I'm just being a bitch but I grew up in a town of people that beleive that everything will be perfect if you just don't talk abotu thigs or change things. It was a town full of bigots and racisists and imbred prick heads who beleived THEY were right and that was all that mattered and who silenced anyone who opposed them in various ways. I'm not just going to sit around and not speak out agaist that practice when I see it in other people and CAN do things about it.

Ah. Yeah, I suppose a frank discussion about rules and ethics would be a good thing to have kept.

[identity profile] darklalice.livejournal.com 2005-04-22 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with you completely, I didnt really choose to get involved with the discussion because I was busy mining hehe but I did think it was lame how the post were deleted and then a lot of justificaion for the mods actions were "because no one should question" or that thing about family.. even if they are family they shouldnt be immune to the rules and go around doing stuff like that. I really didnt like the action taken against me by the co mod earlier also. I have nothing against her I was just complaining about the spamming of community with all that competition stuff and she was like you already complained once so move on.. or something like that and I thought that was just not very mod like to not even value the opinion of a member who was voicing a concern about the spamming of posts. anyways if they continue to make rash decision like this and then just write it off then we can just form a new rs community somewhere else. hopefully they will actually start enforcing the rules and get things back to normal (I didnt like the way they tried to change the rule for that one guy.. they made the rules so they should stick to them and not change them just to keep one guy on).. he must of been family or a friend also :P

Actualy, was debating talkign to abunch of people about forming a new comunity called Runescape Lounge, idea being 'A place you can go to chat about RS away from the idoits of RS' sorta deal, because I have been having alot of issues of how thigns have been delt with.

When you're on AIM, poke at me and we can chat about this.

It's simple... If you don't like it. Leave. Don't create more drama from whining about how "it's not fair"

[identity profile] franthenut.livejournal.com 2005-04-22 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I never said 'It's not fair' I said it's fucked up.

And as this is my journal, I can write whatever I damned well please, thank you. *smiles* After all, I'm sure it's been said that drama from the group should be taken to personal journals and here I am doing it.

And here I thought leaving would make MORE drama, silly me. This is what I get for delaying my desion a few days to let thigns cool off.

Guess then I shall go for the drama of cecession. Huzzah! *prances off*

[identity profile] franthenut.livejournal.com 2005-04-23 03:50 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] wowwhony.livejournal.com 2005-04-23 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Um... exactly what was going on? I missed it because I was at school, and everything was deleted by the time I finished Mount Homework.

I know, curiosity killed the cat.

[identity profile] franthenut.livejournal.com 2005-04-23 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Basicly, someone posted that they were gonna account share [someone who's just been an all round dick] People did a 'Dude, cheating.' and I posted a 'Okay, people: This is the rule on account sharing' thing. Amanda deleted the cheater's post and said she was gonna tell Stephany about it so action could be taken. When Stephany did get on, how ever, she deleted Amanda and my thread and basicly chastized us both, said she wasn't going to ban the cheater and instead rewrote the rules to say you wouldn't get banned, but instead get a warning. Someone else apparently had posted saying 'YOu're all scammers, selling at high prices and not selling exactly at guide price, ect.' (I missed this and got a recap) which also got deleted, so she posted a new post saying 'I'm leaving, I don't like censorship' Disgussion went on in there about what had happened before and scamming in general and the thread vanished. People assued Stephany had deleted it, and she got pissy at that, and said she didn't and general discontent over 'Dude, you delted stuff that was harmless' and 'There's been alot of deleting' and a big ole drama sprang up around the fact that she kept deleting stuff because she didn't want drama. Then there's the miss about the new comninuty which I think is still up. Lots of discontent about bending of rules for someone that they didn't think deserved it, muttering about deleting an 'innocent' thread and basicly being rude to her mod who was just inforcing the rules. Stephany kept contradicting herself and eventualy started lieing [She told someone that my post had been me trying to be the mod (which it had not) and said that she and AManda decide the banning, not me, when she made it fairly clear it's just her when she overrode what Amanda said, and said my psot hurt Amanda when Amanda herself had thanked me for the post because it pointed out a problem. ] Then alot more stuff got brought up and more grumbling and then she threatened me with banning, saying she had gotten complaints agaist me but hadn't done anything because I was 'friends with the group'

So, basicly, she deleted stuff, people got aggravated, she said 'My group, my rules, don't like it, leave.' So we did.

Hope that clears it up some. :)

Thank you. I understand now.

[identity profile] fayoreix2.livejournal.com 2005-04-24 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
That's like a freaking dictatorship, I never knew stuff like that happened over there.

As soon as I get into the new community, bye bye that one. If there's one thing I cannot stand, it's bigoted and narrowminded mods and admins.

I applaud ya Fran, for making a new place to go. No one should be threatened with a ban for speaking their mind.
