Why do people always assume the worst?
I've noticed this in quite a few areas, the most recent being the whole 'OMG!!! LJ SOLD OUT!' thing...
LJ has allowed itself to be baught by another blogging company to create a bigger better blog basicly.
Already, peopel are predicting banner ads and everything going down the crapper when the 'press releases' all say the same thing: No negative changes.
It would make no sence for them to randomly start making everythign suck. They want people to like the service so much that they'll pay for it. They'll most likey be adding in more 'If you pay you get thiiiiis' bells and whistles to entise people to pay so they get their money out of the deal. But noone thinks of that. It's all 'If they put up ads, I'm SO gone!' Gone to where? LJ, to my knowlage, is the only of it's type to be compleatly ad free. All the other LJ clones have ads of various leveles. And most people won'y want to put the effort out to make a tradtional blog.
Then you have the big thing in the Yuugiou comunity: GX has been licenced.
Insert big chorus of 'Oh NOES!' here.
They;re predicting that they're going to utterly rewrite characters and change plots and ruin EVERYTHING about the show cause OMG the dub is so EEEEVIL.
Personaly? The dub of DK was probally one of the better dubs I've seen. [the Battle City dub, I have bones to pick with but GX shouldn't hav ethat problem as it's not that serious.] There were only minor changes that are logical considering the envoirment that the show is being produced in. [Must sanitise and protect the kiddies and protect our asses from lawsuits! - See upcoming rant. ] Being that GX is not plot heavy and not really that 'dark' I'm expecting a dub on par with that. Shou will get Bakura's voice, Juudai'll be more Yuugi like, Asuka'll get a bit Te'a like (sadly) or a bit more Mai like depending on the VA they pick, Nya sensei'll be Pegs, and Ryou'll become the new Kaiba. Not much of a shift really. Hayato I'm a bit warry of how they'll handle but we'll see how that goes when they do it. There'll be the usial removal of 'excess occultness' and the bath sceen will gain baithing suits but it won't be that bad.
But because 'OMG 4KIDZ is EEEEVIL' everyone's expecting the worse.
Then we have the 'Gods, please shut up already' doom sayers about Bush's 2nd turm saying how he's going to single handedly destroy the fabic of the US.
WHich leads me to beleive they either think the US is very very fragile, or that they think that Bush is the next Darth Vader.
I think they're giving Bush FAR too much credit.
Personaly? I think the man's an idoit who slept during his lessions on forgien policy and it saddens me that so many peopel suport his actions, but you must remember: Most people who vote dont' vote FOR anyone. They vote agaist the person they dislike more. Ask anyone who they voted for and why and half the answers will be 'Because I didn't want that other guy to win'
But back on topic.
Unless Bush pulls some spectaculat stunts, there is no way possible he's going to destroy the fabric of democracy. Everybody remember the Cold War? Or what you learned in school about it? If the US manged to survive McCarthyism, it's not gonna be taken down by poor planning and bungled menuvers. Weither or not you agree with him, Bush is trying to do what he thinks is best. [weither that be for him or the country is your debate, I'm not touching that.] He's not gonna declare martial law or accidently set off an A bomb or set fire to the consitution while cackleing 'Foolish Mortals!' cause there's a little thing call checks and balances.
And the fact that life is not a B movie and the worst case senario isn't alwaqys what happens.
And running around crying that the sky is falling only will give you ulcers.
Stop worrying that things are going to be bad. I'm not saying become a blind optimist, but don;t be a blind pessimsist either. Cause if you're expecting only yo see bad things happen, you won't see if anything good also happens.

There is a fine line between optimism and naivete. With livejournal (a far less important thing) the reason everyone is so paranoid is A. If a stink is made, there is less of a chance of everything getting screwed up, and B. Things that were good for a long time under a new management have a tendency more often than not to go to crap.
As for politics, I think you should probably read up a bit more . While most of the naysayers are just as bad by saying blanked statements about how bad bush is, the other sides are just as bad. The next four years have a potential to be very devastating or interesting. I think we've hit a big slump in global popularity (Yes, it's not everything and the guy who does the right thing is often not popular) and from the biggest blanket of support for the us to opne of the biggest lows in U.S. History I think this president has the ability to do many thingsthat may not even seem plausable at this time. My adivce for everyone is stay informed. ESPECIALLY since it isn't an election year, politicians may try things that are much more daring than usual.

I'm not saying bury your head in the sand, I'm saying stop lamenting that we're all gonna die.
