Rant: Seme/Uke [Mostly Yuugiou]

I really dislike when people assign a role in bed for someone. Saying 'Oh he's so always uke' or 'He's not a wuss, he'd be seme!'

What end a person is in the bedroom is situational. You cannot assign a number or ranking to it.

Main gripe: Kaiba.

There's this.. rash of Super-Uke!Kaiba stuff. Saying how he'd never take seme cause he's so emotional buggered.

Kaiba was adopted by Gozaburo and TRAINED to be the best, to be the top. Sleep is for the weak, the weak are doomed to fail. He was taught to be the best business man the military-minded Kaiba empire could produce. Military mindset. Everything is a battle. You never show any weakness in battle.

Kaiba has emotional problems. You never see him smile unless it's involving Mokuba. Everything is a smirk, a cackle. He has a hard shell around him that only Mokuba can get through because he knows Mokuba. His little brother. His sanity and reason for living. He trusts him.

Uke is a lot about trust. Trust that your partner will respect you in the morning, that they will respect you during the sex. All sex holds that aspect, but the uke roll even more so. You are offering your body to another. You are inviting someone inside of you, inviting them past your defences. Giving them control. They control when they pull out, when they come in. You can guide and you can ask but in the end, it is their decision.

Kaiba is a control freak.

How many times has he said 'I control my own destiny'? When any control is lost, when it looks like he cannot make things come out how he likes, he starts losing it. YYuugi vs Kaiba, Duelist Kingdom. When Kaiba realizes he will lose, and thus lose his chance to save Mokuba, he starts to lose it. The only way he has to take back the control of the situation is to put his own life on the line. YYuugi vs Kaiba again, Duel Tower. When he loses, he has a spaz of 'How can I prove now' and goes to destroy the tower, despite the final duel still needing to take place. Mokuba is the one who stops him.

In order for Kaiba to take the uke role, he needs to feel comfortable with the other person and trust him. Being that the only person Kaiba shows he trusts and that he lowers his defences for is Mokuba, [and no, I am NOT getting into that pairing 'cause INCEST = EW.] it shows that someone would need to work rather hard to gain his trust. So it's damned unlikely that Kaiba would take uke first sexual encounter. Kaiba often seems to feel the need to prove himself. I doubt this would not be a factor in any relationship he's in. To prove he is capable, and in control and similar, he would take seme. Only after a trusting relationship has been build, would he allow himself to submit to another.

I agree. I only wrote one lemon where Kaiba wasn't seme, but that was because he was...er...binded...???? XD

Yeah...I'd rather not go for "roles" in any pairing fic, yaoi or otherwise. But if you insist on going that way, Kaiba wouldn't be a good person for uke.

Personally, I prefer Kaiba as uke, and I think putting him in that role (and I tend to think of seme and uke as more indicators of power balance in a relationship than the literal matter of who's on top/bottom) can be very useful for furthering his characterization--but it's a fine line and one really has to be careful to do it right. I imagine I've overstepped the line a few times myself now and again. Fics that have fanon Kaiba acting like, say, fanon Ryou are about as OOC as it gets. :/

True, all very true. Kaiba is not one to take a submissive or trusting position willingly in most cases.

Uke Kaiva CAN be done, it's just so rare that someone does it right. You'd have to go through the steps of his character development to make it work.

Ooh yeah. In First Kiss it took many months and two breakdowns and Bakura working his arse off to keep Kaiba together before Kaiba uked. A good 100 pages worth of work before Kauba uked.

Insane work. XD But damned it if wasn't cute when it finaly happened. XD

I started reading it and imediately knew it was Ryou. ^^ I got up to chapter 6 I think before my computer kicked me off. I really like it so far.

Am reading the KnK version, because there is more of it there and I have nothing against smut so long as it is tastefully done (i.e. not PWP) like yours are. ^^

I get fwamped because my friend is diehard Ryou/Yami Bakura and can't stand them paired with anyone else. That, and because Kaiba and Bakura have so little interaction in the show, that pairing isn't really as "cannon" as say, Yugi/Yami or Kaiba/Jounouchi. But I go by who I like more than cannon. My fave bishies being the Bakurae, the Maliks, and Kaiba, any of them paired with any of the others in this group I absolutely adore. *heart*

TOTALLY agree with you there. *nodnod* I've written a couple puppyshippy fanfics, and Kaiba's always the seme. I don't know if I could write uke!Kaiba unless I wrote a really long fic... Which isn't likely, since the longest thing I've ever written was 27 pages. XD This is why I usually stick to yami/hikari pairings.

But you do find hard-driving executive types being submissive in domination role-playing places. The most commanding people can sometimes want to drop the burden of decision-making temporarily and just be told what to do. An anonymous, paid encounter is so much the better; you can have it anytime you want, and when it's over, that's all. No troublesome "relationship", no giving away too much about yourself.
