This is pretty damned neat. It looks like someone was projecting an image against the sky almost (there are other photos linked in the comments that make it look less shopped :D) They haven't found the cause of it yet but it's pretty funky. (Good chance it is just some sort of projection over an existing Northern Lights showing cause dude, WTF, buuut)
Someone remind me to look for a follow up story next week to see if they have more on it :D
