Kaworu sat on the bed at the inn, holding Shin against him, eyes tracing over the boy's features. He smiled serenely, still reveling in the fact that Shin was alive. He traced his fingers carefully down the boy's cheek.
"How is he?" Houjun asked, sticking her head in the door.
"Still asleep," Kaworu said, smiling up at her. He held a hand out in invitation.
She almost skipped over, putting her arm around Kaworu. "When he wakes up, I'm taking him out for a cebration," she smiled. Her eyes sobered as she looked at the changed boy. "It's odd... I don;t think there's any way he could be more nurtal or inbetween things..." she mused. "Half between a boy and man... now almost half between male and female..." She was quiet a moment before finishing. "Half between human and something more..." she said softly.
Kaworu nodded, leaning against her side. "And between this world and his own. Do you think he can go back now? That was all he wanted."
"I don't think he can..." Houjun's voice was mixed. "His energy's so diffrent now... When he came he had barely any at all and now there's so much... the Cursed god made it so the boy's one wish was denied..." her eyes darkened a moment. "i do hope whereever he's sealed, he's suffering."
Kaworu's expression was pained as he drew fingers through the boy's hair. "He's so different than he was, but still so much the same." He looked up. "Houjun..." he began hesitently. "You know how I feel about him. If he can't go back, is it still ok?"
Houjun was quiet a moment, then nodded. "It's okay," she said softly. "I can see why you love him..."
Kaworu smiled, face lighting. "Thank you." He pulled her down for a long kiss. "I do love him," he admitted, "But he can't come near the place you have in my heart."
She smiled, snuggling agaist him. "So I guess this means where ever we go from here, he comes as well...until we can find a way for him to go back... if he still wants to."
Kaworu nodded, wrapping an arm around her.
There was a long peroid of quiet. "Kaworu? Where DO we go from here?" Houjun asked. "Did they ever tell you of what happens to us after the Great One?"
Kaworu shook his head. "I never expected to live this long," he said quietly.
She looked at him a moment. "It was that bad?" she asked softly.
He looked away. "He always got rid of things he had no use for. If he didn't kill me, he would have..." His voice trailed off and his shoulders tensed.
She hugged him tightly. "You don't have to worry about him anymore, he's gone... his soul will never show up in this world again..." she said soothingly, stroking his hair. "You don;t have to worry about anything anymore. The cursed gods are sealed and noone has a hold over you ..."
He raised a hand to cover hers. "You're wrong," he said softly, a small smile on his face. "You have a hold on me. And he does," he looked at the boy sleeping in his lap.
She smiled. "And we're the only two who will... unless you want otherwise."
He looked at her, expression serene. "Never." He raised a hand to her cheek, caressing it gently.
(Put up a 'and there was cuteness' sign and fade to next morning?)
"Priest," Houjun adressed. "Any idea why the boy isn't awake yet?"
Jack looked at her, smirking lightly. "After what the three of you did, I'm more surprised that you and Kaworu aren't asleep, Chosen."
"Feh!" Houjun snorted, face a smug smirk as she flopped down on the edge of Jack's bed. "The boy've never delt with anything like this before. Kaworu and I were trained."
"I don't think you were trained for THAT," Jack said, looking at her incredulously. "You DO know what you did, right?"
"We showed that" a string of colourful explatives followed, "miserable god that he can;t keep taking from us and not expect us to do a bit of taking outselves." Her face was smugly arrogant. "I do hope he's suffering wherever he;s sealed..."
Jack chuckled. "Not quite. That," he repeated the string of curses carefully, "miserable god is now enjoying whatever afterlife is open to him." He smiled blandly at her confused expression. "You killed him."
She blinked, expresion mildly dumbstuck. "What?" she finaly asked, blinking a few more times.
Jack chuckled again. "The three of you killed the god," he repeated.
"Killed him?" Houjun repeated, a slow smile growing across her face.
"Killed him," Jack confirmed.
She gave a small giggle. "Are you serious?"
The man sighed. "I'm a researcher. I recognize things when I see them. That is an ex-god."
She giggled again. "Excuse me..." She hopped off the bed and almost skipped to the other room. "Kaaaaworu!" she called giddily.
Kaworu looked up at her, alarmed.
She nearly knocked him down with her hug. "He's dead! The miserable god is dead!" she giggled.
Kaworu stumbled, holding her hard. "What?"
"The priest said the god is dead. We killed him, Kaworu! We said we'd make him pay and we did!"
Wonder blossomed on Kaworu's face. "He's dead?"
"That's what the priest insists! Ask him!"
"I trust you," Kaworu insisted, voice dazed. "We killed him..."
Houjun giggled again. "I hope he wakes up soon, I want to celebrate...."
Kaworu smiled, face still dazed. "So what happens now?" he asked wide eyed. "Even when the god was sealed his energy helped keep the elementals alive. What happens now that he's dead?"
Houjun sobered, looking serious. "I-- I don't know..." she admitted. "The-- the elementals are still here, right?"
Kaworu closed his eyes, then nodded. "They're still here." He opened them again, expression troubled. "But we have to find out what happens now."
She nodded. "But how?"
"I don't know," he said, voice discouraged.
"Lemme go ask the preist..."
Kaworu nodded, releasing her.
Houjun hurried back to Jacks room. "Now that the god's dead... now what?"
"What do you mean?"
Houjun hesatated a moment. "Where did his energy go?"
Jack frowned slightly. "Some of it dispersed, but a great deal of it stayed in the three of you."
Houjun blinked. "Is that why the boy won't wake up?" she asked, voice conserned.
Jack shook his head. "He's expended a lot of his own energy, and after the amount of the god's energy he had pushed into him it's no wonder he
is still asleep."
Houjun sat down, thinking. "So... in a way... instead of the god being resurected..." she began slowly. "the energy... is causing a new god to be born..." She bit her lip.
"I doubt a single one, especially with the way the elementals bonded with the two of you."
She looked up, eyes wide. "You-- you mean..." she trailed off, somewhat in shock.
Jack smiled. "Well, just full of surprises, aren't I?"
Houjun scowled at him a moment. "This better not be bullshit, priest..." she threatened before calming again. "But... it can't be right... Kaworu still feels the same... neither of us are changing any...."
He rolled his eyes. "Because the god didn't decide he wanted your bodies. The energy wasn't the reason Shin changed, it was the god's will."
Houjun was quiet a moment. "But we're not gods..." she stated.
"Have you tried anything godlike?"
She gave him a dirty look. "If 'godlike' means acting like the cursed gods, then no."
Jack sighed. "I meant more in the structuring of nature type of godlike. Don't you know the purpose of gods?"
She shook her head. "Only the crap they tried to feed me at the temple."
Jack sighed again. "Let me try to explain."
Houjun settled down to listen.
"The world is a chaotic place. Left to itself, everything has the tendancy to head toward death. The job of the gods is to order things so that they have the most chance for life. That's why the gods controlled the elements. Everything is made of five elements, so the ordering of those brings life. Can you understand that?"
Houjun nodded. "So basicly... the gods are supose to act as a caretaker..."
"Something like that. The four were ambitious and only wanted the power, and the god you just killed... Well, I don't really know anything about him." He smiled crookedly. "But think of what you can do now against everything you keep railing about."
Houjun grinned. "So basicly... Kaworu and I can reorder things so they work better?
"Within reason, my little spitfire. Going on rampages to destroy what isn't too your liking will get other powerful mages to seal you up the way this one was."
Houjun made a face for a moment, then grinned again. "I already destroyed the Temple of Fire and the Water Emperor." She smirked.
