As I read yet again in the paper about abuses of Iraqi's and I start thinking...
I have an online friend who was sent to Iraq. Few weeks ago, he was a big ass ball of rage and hate at the world. He's on leave now and is suddently very much a fountain of love and happiness.
For those who do the abuses, the problem is that the ball of hate gets taken out on the people they're supose to be there on the behalf of. These people hate being where they are, can't handle the stress and don;t see Iraqi's as real people. I doubt many if any of them speak any of the lanugage or even would care to. The same people who back here would be going on about 'THose damned ragheads' are off fighting in a war that has no clear boundries. There is no other country to fight agaist, there is no defineing characteristic you can put on people to tell the diffrence between the guy who caused your buddy to lose an arm and the guy who who tried to help him when he was hit.
Read an account of soildiers breakign soad bottles over citizan's heads out of boredum and in the name of stress releif. If they did the same thing over here they'd get arrested for asault. But you're in a war, laws and rules don't matter. You're already breaking the one law that's in every socity: Don't kill. So what does it matter if you beat the shit out of some guy who looked at you funny. He might have been a terrorist anyway, you don't know. All them ragheads are the same anyway, right?
You hit someone because they looked at you funny. So people get angry and start fighting back however they can, throwing rocks are you. So you shoot at people throwing rocks. So the people throwing rocks find bigger things to throw, wanting to hurt you more. Escalation more and more.
What does this solve? What's the point of being over there if all we do is make it all worse? Why are we sending people who are blinded by hatered and what they think is patrism? "Gonna kill me some ragheads" That isn't why you're fighting....
And people wonder why the world hates us. We just invaded a country in the name of saving it's people and now our people are acting like the dictactor we just disposed of. Such a humanitarian effort, isn't it?
Instead of a war on terrorism, can we figth a war on hate? After all, isn't that where it all comes from anyway?
