Anime review/summery: Otogi-jushi Akazukin
Anime: Otogi-jushi Akazukin [ep1]

Base consept: Because God feared man would be too powerful, he split the world into 2, one of magic and one of science. The science one is our modern day world, and the magic one is the land where fairytales come from. A dark sorceress was reborn in the magic world and desires the power of both words to become a god so she's looking for The Key of the Seal to break the seal between worlds.
It opens with the main character boy (Souta) being chased by a monster through a forest. He gets saved by a girl (Looks somewhat like Sakura from CCS) in a fantasy style outfit weilding double blades. Souta gets all <3 over the girl only to be woken by his nextdoor neighbor, Ringo-chan to go off to school. Both of them are midderschoolers and you find out that the story of the world spliting is a tale Souta's mother told him that he never could find in books no matter how hard he tried. Cuteness in school (Souta can apparently make plants healthy just by talking to them and Ringo so has a crush on him. :) ) When Souta gets home, he notices a battered looking large blue and white wolfish looking dog by the well in his yard. He carefly brings him up to his porch and is dressing his wounds when he hears something from inside. He calls out, asking if its his dad who has come home, but gets no answer. His attention goe sback to the dog, who's looking behind Souta to where the monster from his dream is about to attack. Dog shouts out a warning and goes to attack the monster and tells Souta (who's having a bit of a 'WTF!' moment) to run. Dog is knocked down and Souta yells at the monster to stop, giving off a strong aura glow. Monster stops. Dog goes '.. Dude' Souta stops glowing and freezes up as the monster is slowly advacing on him. Dog goes to attack and but is knocked aside. Enter chick with the double blades (Akazukin) to the rescue! Monster's ass is kicked, Val (the dog) and Akazukin take a nap.
Cut to the baddies. (one of which is a cat that goes '-nya' at the end of his senta ces that Juchan is convinced is Nyasensei. :) ) Takl abotu the Key of the Seal being senced and going to investigate. Side note: Baddy chick is very nice to look at and her main sidekick/2nd in comand, Hansel, is also nice looking (and has pale hair. :D *dork*)
Back to Souta who's still kinda in @_@ So confused land. Ringo comes over to bring him food (seems like Souta's parents are MIA for the most part and he lives alone). Dinner with Akzaukun and Val, which Ringo comes back to find (she smacks poor Souta for being involved with a 'Cosplay girl' :) Akazukin explains the world set up and about Cendrillon, the baddy chick, and says she was sent to this world (through the portal between worlds which is the well in Souta's yard) to stop baddy chick from getting the key.
Souta goes off to school and amusement of Val being mezmorized by the TV, which is inturpted by him realizing they're being spied on. Akazukin and Val go off to hunt down teh enemy while there's cuteness between Ringo and Souta (He makes her a flower crown) Monster interupts and snatches Ringo away and Souta chases after. Meanwhile, Val and Akazukin have been captured by the baddie's team to be used as bait. Souta arives and is told to show them the power of the Key of Seal or else Ringo and Akazukin and VAl will be killed. Souta protests he has no idea what they're talking about but as the monster moves to start hirting Ringo he does the yelling 'Stop' glow thing, only in a MUUUCH Bigger way. Explosions sort of way. Very spiffy. FLings back the monster and breaks teh seal holding Akazukin and Val. Hansel has that look of needing new pants that Kaiba gets when he sees Ra. The group goe st run and the baddie sgo after and enter new chick, Sirayuki-hime who comes to their aid to fight. Running, fighting, ect ect, amument with Sirayuki being distracted by a rack of outfits (they're figthing in a mall) and preening over one, only to have it ripped in half by a monster. Her glasses go all shine-reflection and she caughs, dissapearing into the elevator. Monster blinks. Elevator door opens again, showing an ice constrict monster who beats the crap otutathe monster. Sirayuki ajusts her glasses and declairs 'That;s your punishment' I like her. :D )
FIghting fighting fighting, big monster, Sirayuki and Akazukin combine powers, zapp! Baddies retreat.
Baddies report o head baddy chick who amazingly, does not fall into the cliche and does not beat the crap out of her flunkies for their failure and instead congradulates them on enableing her to find the Key. Amazement!
Back to Souta's house, Akazukin explaines that the Key is inside Souta. Akazukin says she (and Val) will be staying to protect SOuta and Sirayuki says she's staying too because she loves Souta and wants to protect him as well (Souta has thuis 'Erm... what?' reaction) Hijinks between her and Ringo (who's very jealous) and Souta, wisely, slips away to sit near Val while Akazukin tries to stop the fighting.
Cute little closing bit about fairly tales becomeing reality and end.
... wow, that was a play by play. :D
Overall: Much likeing. Has a bit of a CCSakura feal but not as cliched and I think it's mostly teh art style that gives that feel. Good characters, a baddy that ISN'T a walking cliche and a neat world set up. Will be DLign more (if there's more, it might be a one shot... hope not.) Ringo and Souta are very cute and Souta also isnt' a big ole chiche, huzzah. DEfinately recomended.
