"Please. I can't do this any longer. You have Earth behind you. Please, Shin." Kaworu's reserves ran out and he came back to himself in Houjun's room.
He became vaugly aware that he was bleeding and the hand that he had been using to hold Houjun was broken. The woman was standing over him, eyes blazing with ice, constrasting with the fire in her hand. "Tell me where the Great One is...." she said darkly.
Kaworu held the broken hand to his chest. "You can't have him," he said. "I will not let you hurt him again. He raised the minimal power he had left around him as a barrier. The girl gave a cry and thrust the fireball in his direction. He reeled from the impact, supporting himself against the wall. "I will tell you nothing," he grated. The echo of an earthquake passed his inner senses and the knowledge of a purple pillar of light taking Shin away from the north entered his mind. He smiled. "He's back," he whispered before sliding into the shadows and moving himself to the ruined temple. "Shin," he said, kneeling next to the boy, "I'm here."
Shin looked up from where he was curled under the altar. His eyes went wide when he saw Kaworu's condition. "Kaworu, what--?"
"It's nothing," Kaworu said, folding his arm over the hand to hide it. "Are you all right?"
"It's not nothing," Shin said softly, placing a hand where the injury was hidden. "Let me see it, I think-- I think I can help heal it...."
Kaworu hesitated and uncovered his hand slowly. "You shouldn't waste your power on me. It's just broken."
Shin gently laid a hand over Kaworu's, closing his eyes. Slowly, a dark blue light began to spread over the injury. Smaller bits of lighter blue washed over Kaworu's other wounds, sealing them as the grey haired man's hand was healed.
Kaworu closed his eyes, feeling the pain leave his body. "Thank you," he said softly.
Shin smiled, opening his eyes as the lights faded. "It's the least I can do, you got hurt protecting me...."
Kaworu raised his hand to Shin's cheek. "You don't have to do anything for me," he said sincerely. "You're well-being is enough."
Shin blushed, smiling.
There was a flash of red light and Houjun materized behind the boy, grabbing him from behind by his neck and hauling him up so his feet didn't reach the ground. Shin gave a startled cry of pain as her nails dug into his skin, drawing blood.
"Get off of him!" Kaworu cried, surging to his feet, a ball of water forming in the hand that had just been healed.
Houjun sneared and threw a fireball at the man, vaporizing his water.
"Kaworu!" Shin cried out.
"Shut up." Houjun dragged Shin over to the altar and slammed him onto it, causing the boy to cry out in pain. "I've had enough of this," she hissed. "You've been holding in the Great One too long already." She lifted her free hand and another ball of flame appeared.
"You will not hurt him," Kaworu said, eyes flashing red, ice leaving his hands to encase her. A blue glow surrounded him as he stepped between her and Shin. "I will kill you if I have to, but you will not touch him."
There was a muffled scream of outrage from inside the ice.
Shin made a small noise of discomfort as the ice around Houjun's hand began tightening around his neck. There was a small flash of red and the ice melted, alowing Shin to get away from her grip. He rolled off the altar and hid underneith it, trying to keep from hyper ventelating.
Kaworu's expression darkened. "You will never hurt him again," he said softly. All at once, the fluids in Houjun's body froze and expanded, causing her systems to rupture. The ice broke into shards and fell to the ground.
Kaworu's eyes widened, the glow leaving him. "Houjun," he choked, falling to his knees among the ice.
Shin hesatantly peared out, eyes wide. "Kaworu?" he asked timidly.
There was no responce.
"Oh god," Shin whispered, hurring over to the man. "Kaworu?" He kneeled in font of the man, placeing his hands on his shoulders, becoming more alarmed as there was no recognition. Shin's eyes began to water. "Kaworu, please... say something...." he begged.
There was still no responce.
Shin gave a choked sob and began hugging the man tightly, face burried in Kaworu's shoulders. "No... Kaworu, please... don't-- don't go...."
'Houjun,' Kaworu's mind sobbed. Any hope of regaining her was gone. Lost, and utterly destroyed by his own hands. He wondered if it was anything like what she had felt after his deception. She was gone forever, and all he wanted to do was follow her.
'Kaworu...' came a soft voice. 'C'mon, don't you cut out on me here...'
"Houjun," Kaworu said in wonder, reaching out toward her.
She gave a small smile and lay a ghostly hand on his cheak. 'You were always the only person who'd call me by that name.' Her voice was slightly wistful. 'I'm sorry I let her win, Kaworu, can you forgive me?'
Kaworu stared at her incomprehendingly. "But I killed you, Houjun! Why are you appologizing to me?"
'You didn't kill me, you killed her. The Sacred Lady. I killed myself long ago.'
Kaworu put a hand to cover her ghostly one. "And that was my fault too. Houjun... How can you be sorry when I detroyed you? What--" he cut off, shaking his head. "There's nothing I can do to redeem myself, but give me any task and I will do it." He knelt in front of her. "Anything, if there's any possibility to see you again someday."
'Kaworu...' She kneeled down to be on his level. 'You were the only one who gave me life. I was dead before I met you, and it's only now, that my body is dead that the rest of me can finaly become alive again. I'm no longer a Chosen, Kaworu... I'm free....'
Tears filled his eyes. "Can I be with you?" he begged in a whisper.
'Not in death,' she said softly. 'But I'll be with you in your life. You still have your duty... you have that boy to protect.'
He looked down. "Shin," he said softly. "Houjun, I can't! Without you...."
'Shhh...' she gently stroked his face. 'You won't be without me. I'll be with you. I'll always be with you.' She smiled softly. 'My spirit will be by your side in the day, and in your dreams a night. You'll never be alone, I promice.'
The tears started falling amid strangled sobs and he reached out almost blindly.
'Kaworu...' the girl's voice faded slightly, another picking up her call. "Kaworu... oh god, Kaworu, please...."
Kaworu looked up, nearly blinded by his tears and clutched Shin like a lifeline, sobbing into the boy's chest.
Shin gave a deep relieved breath and hugged the man tigher, stroking Kaworu's hair with a slightly shaking hand. "Oh god, Kaworu, I was so worried..."
"I'm sorry," Kaworu sobbed to both Shin and Houjun. "Gods, I'm so sorry."
"It's okay..." Shin comforted the man as best he could. "It's okay... I'm here... I'll protect you..."
Kaworu heard Houjun's voice with Shin's and looked up, lip trembling uncontrolably. "Please," he said, not realizing until he said it that he wanted the other boy to kiss him. He gave another choked sob, staring wide-eyed up at Shin.
"Please what?" Shin said in a soft tone. "Just tell me what you want, and I'll do my best to give it to you..." he gently put a hand on Kaworu's cheek, eyes emotional.
"Kiss me?" Kaworu begged, trembling slightly in Shin's arms.
Shin blinked, then blushed slightly. Gently, he leaned foward and brushed his lips agaist the other man's, eyes closing.
Kaworu closed his eyes, leaning up into the kiss to increase the contact. His hands fisted into the material of Shin's shirt holding himself to the other boy, tears still flowing down his cheeks.
Shin wrapped his arms around the man, holding him as close as he could.
Kaworu's lips opened slightly in invitation.
Shin hesatated, and then broke the kiss, pulling back sligthly, but still holding the man. "S-sorry," he apologized. "I-- I've never... I mean..." He gave a sigh, leaning his forhead on Kaworu's.
Kaworu shook his head slightly. "I shouldn't have pushed you." He snuggled more tightly against the other boy. "I'm sorry."
"It's not that, I just--" Shin blushed lightly. "I mean, I know-- I know what you were asking, I just..." he trailed off.
"You don't have to do anything, Shin," Kaworu said quietly. "I just... thought you might like to..."
Shin smiled softly. "You'd have to show me how to first."
Kaworu looked down slightly. "You want me to?"
Shin's face grew red once more. "I don't know," he admited. "This-- this is my first... I mean..." His blush deepened. "You're-- you;re the first guy I've-- I've ever..." his voice grew very soft and quiet. "Ever fallen in love with...."
Kaworu looked up at Shin, wide-eyed again. "...love?" he asked in a hoarse whisper.
Shin looked down, face pracically glowing with his blush as he nodded slightly.
"Only one other person..." Kaworu's grip tightened spasmodically. "Really?" he asked in a small voice.
Shin gave a small noise as he was squeased. "I-- I think so..." he said in a very soft voice.
Kaworu looked at Shin incredulously, face slowly crumpling. He buried his face against Shin's chest, sobbing softly.
Shin looked slightly started. "Ka-Kaworu?" he asked gently. "Is- is something wrong?"
Kaworu shook his head almost violently. "Nothing's ever been so right." He looked up again, eyes bright. "You really...?" he asked, unable to finish the question. Contentment crossed his face as he leaned against Shin, arms loosely around the other boy.
Shin made a small noice and adjusted himself so he wouldtn't fall, still holding the grey haired man.
